What was my first job after high school?
What did I sell?
Was I successful?
How did I feel about the product?
What was my family’s involvement?
How did I interact with the product?
What were the consequences?
What was my next job?
I was a much worse student in college than in high school. Didn’t do the reading. So I’d fail these simple little quizzes that tested only that. I wasn’t embarrassed enough about it, this obvious evidence that I wasn’t even trying, evidence my professor had to officially acknowledge with a red pen. And even more embarrassingly, give me a few points for the answers I’d guessed correctly.
Instead of reading, I played video games. My college bottlenecked all internet traffic through a restrictive proxy server, so I had to wait for breaks to play my favorite game: a text-based MUD based on Terry Pratchett’s Discworld. In this game, a certain quest required “studying” a fictional language. You didn’t have to really memorize anything, you just had to give the command to study three times, and then the command to take the test. I aced it. I did not learn my lesson.
